Reinier Saxton wins the first trophy of the season

Red Sea Egyptian Classic 2015

A perfect start to the tournament year for Reinier Saxton: With 10 under par overall the Dutchman secured victory at the Red Sea Egyptian Classic on Thursday, thus confidently winning the 2015 season opener tournament. After rounds of 67, 71 and 68 strokes, he had a three-point lead on the Scotsman Ross Cameron and Benjamin Rusch from Switzerland, each with 7 under par, on the par-72 course at the Ain Sokhna Golf Club in the town of the same name by the Red Sea in Egypt.

Ain Sokhna/Egypt – "It feels really good to already have one title under my belt," said Reinier Saxton pleased with his excellent performance on the Ain Sokhna Golf Club course. The 26-year old already shone with a perfect 67 round on the first day of the tournament, where he managed five birdies. "I've trained really hard over the last few weeks and also played well," says Saxton. He therefore was "not particularly surprised" that it all worked out so well straightaway at the tournament too. His particular strength during this week: composure. "I played consistently and didn't have any major weaknesses. It's simply great fun to play golf in this superb weather. The course is in a good condition, the greens are very fast. I was able to adapt to this and my putts also found the hole again on the final day."

The fact that strong putts turned into birdies six times in the third round was one of the reasons why Saxton was able to take four strokes off the Scotsman Ross Cameron on the final day; Cameron had led the competition with a one-point lead after rounds 1 and 2 but had to be satisfied with a par round in the crucial round. Another reason for Saxton's success were solid long drives that allowed him to attack many greens in round 3.

This is what he wants to do next week too when the Red Sea Ain Sokhna Classic, the 2015 Pro Golf Tour's second tournament, is hosted on the same 27-hole golf course but on a different combination of holes. It is also all about the prize money of EUR 30,000 then and just as many points for the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit. Reinier Saxton is keeping a close eye on the ranking list: "My aim this season is promotion to the Challenge Tour," says the man from Amsterdam. He has taken the first step.

The Pro Golf Tour got off to a successful start to the 2015 season with the Red Sea Egyptian Classic. The players raved about the course and outstanding training conditions.
