Max Kramer wins with a strong finish
Open Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia 2018
At the last event in the Pro Golf Tour 2018 Moroccan series, the German Max Kramer won the tournament with 8 under par in total. Thanks to a 68 round on the last day, Kramer won the tournament with a two stroke lead on the Dutchman Max Albertus and Christopher Maclean from Scotland, who both finished with 6 under par.
Mohammedia/Morocco – “I am really thrilled about this win! My pitch strokes were very good and my putts in particular went really well. As a result I remained very calm on the final day, experience possibly plays quite a big part here too,” said the professional from Fulda with delight at the award ceremony, praising the par 71 Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia course at the same time: “The course is in great condition, a great deal of work is obviously put into it. The new greens have turned out really brilliant!”
After rounds of 71 and 66 strokes, Kramer shared fourth place after day 2. With a more than solid 68 on the final day when Kramer had to record three bogeys, but also added six birdies to his score card, he overtook the Dutchman Max Albertus. The tour rookie had been in the lead for the two days before having followed a 67 in round 1 with a 66 in the next round. On day 3 though, the later runner-up showed nerves and had to sign off on a 74 after two bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie. Max Kramer, on the other hand, remained calm, seized his chance and therefore secured his first win on the Pro Golf Tour since his triumph at the CEEVEE Leather Open in the 2016 season.
Benjamin Rusch won the overall Race to Rabat. The Swissman emerges from the current season as the most successful player in the Pro Golf Tour Moroccan tournaments with 7957.74 points. This gives him a wild card for the Trophée Hassan II, the European Tour tournament, which is endowed with 2.5 million Euros and takes place from 19 to 22 April on the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam golf course in Rabat. The 28-year old from Weinfelden already won a trophy there on the Pro Golf Tour in 2015.
The Pro Golf Tour Moroccan series comes to an end for the 2018 season with the Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia. The extremely successful partnership between the tour and the Association du Trophée Hassan II de Golf has already existed for nine years. The professionals were offered the best playing conditions on excellent and variety-packed courses during the winter months this year too. The players are now getting a short break before they return to the European mainland: then the Haugschlag NÖ Open 2018 in Austria is on the programme from 25 to 27 April. The golfers will be battling for the EUR 30,000 prize money and just as many Order of Merit points there.
