Walldürn-Neusaß – „I was totally suprised that I got into the play-off. All I thought about before was the pizza I already ordered.“ Hinrich Arkenau didn’t expect to finish the event as shared first, since Frenchman Julien Gressier and Chris Robb from Scottland had held the lead until the 16th hole. But the Gressier had to note two birdies on the last two holes, Robb a bogey and a double-bogey. Suddenly Arkenau and Johannes Steiner were in the lead and by that determined to go into a play-off: „Johannes was first to start, but his ball went into the trees on the left side. So I knew, a birdie would be probably enough to win. That’s why I hit my driver and then my shot with the hybrid went 225 meters and close to the pin. So I could even score an eagle“, Arkenau said.

After he had missed the promotion to the Challenge Tour by a few points in the last two years, the 28-year-old, who already achieved five Top 10 results in 2018, is positive about the future: „I think it might work this time. I’ve got a new coach who gives me a lot of new input and I’m on a good way so far. Playing solid gives you more confidence, and a win even more.“

At the prize giving ceremony, Arkenau was absolutely positive about the Golfclub Glashofen-Neusaß: „The course is one of the best, if not the best, in this season. It’s very demanding, especially from the tee. Pretty long, narrow fairways, goods shots are rewarded, bad ones punished. Also there were a lot of guys watching us play. The members of the club are fantastic, in general it was just a great venue. I hope, the tour gets to come back next year again“, Arkenau said.

Already on next Monday, 25th of June, the next Pro Golf Tour event will start with the Polish Open 2018. In the Gradi Golf Club next to Wroclaw the players will fight again for the 30.000 Euros prize money and as much ranking points.
