Hinrich Arkenau starts successfully into the season
Red Sea Egyptian Classic 2019
For the fifth time in a row, the first Pro Golf Tour event of the season took place in Sokhna Golf Club close to the Red Sea. The winner is German Hinrich Arkenau (71, 66 / -7) who defeated Dutchman Robbie van West (68, 69 / -7) by playing birdie on the first extra hole ofthe playoff.
Ain Sokhna/Ägypten – Hole 18. The last hole of the regular round. Hinrich Arkenau hits his Wedge from 107 meters four meters close to the pin. Putt for birdie. By that the German scores a total of 7 under par and shares the first rank with Robbie van West from the Eindhoven. Both players head back to the 18th tee, Arkenaus drive goes a little further than a few minutes ago. „I knew I just had to repeat my 52°-Wedge shot“, Arkenau said. He did, the ball landed two meters close to the flagstick. A successfull putt and the man from Bremen has secured himself his fifth trophy on the Pro Golf Tour.
Also, Arkenau celebrated a premier: On hole 8, a 475 meter Par 5, he shot his 4 Iron from 192 meters – and it rolled directly into the cup. By that the German scored the first Albatros in his professional career.
German Moritz Lampert finished the event in Egypt after rounds of 71 and 68 strokes on the third rank with 5 under par, one stroke ahead of Frenchman Stanislas Gautier, German Maximilian Walz and Benjamin Rusch from Switzerland.
The tournament has been cut down to two rounds due to a sandstorm on day 2. The Red Sea Egyptian Classic was the first out of two events on the perfectly prepared facilites of the Sokna Golf Club. The next event, the Red Sea Ain Sokhna Classic, will take place from 21st to 23rd January. 93 players will fight for 30.000 Euros prize money and as many ranking points.
