An excellent golf course, a tournament with the flair of a European tour event, a masterful winner from Austria: Berni Reiter from Goldegg in Pongau secured the title of the LOTOS Polish Open 2014 on Wednesday afternoon. With 10 under par (66, 73, 67), the 25-year old won a safe victory unchallenged by the German Sean Einhaus (-7) and Sebastian Heisele (-6) on the Championship course at the Sand Valley Golf & Country Club in Pasłęk, Poland. For Reiter, who has already played a 59 round this year, it was the first tournament win in his professional career.

Pasłęk/Poland – He "still cannot really believe it", found it "pretty cool" and enjoyed the moments after his triumph at the LOTOS Polish Open 2014 to the full: Berni Reiter, born on 23 February 1989, wrapped up his first tournament win in Poland and did it in the manner of a champion. He already suspected on the very first day that this might be a very special tournament when he holed eagles using his wedge on hole 2 from 110 metres and hole 18 from 120 metres. "That kind of thing doesn't happen to you every day, it was really unbelievable", said the golf professional after the round. At the end of the first round he signed a very chequered score card that only had 66 strokes on it in total though and led the competition with one shot clear ahead of the local Polish matador Maksymilian Saluda.

Strong wind caused problems for all players in round 2, "there were really violent gusts of wind", said Reiter who returned to the clubhouse with a 73 round and now shared first place with Max Kramer from Frankfurt. Making Reiter's 67 strokes on the final day, which was also stormy, even more remarkable, when with six birdies he only allowed himself one bogey. Kramer dropped back into eleventh place with a 78 round.

"I really enjoyed it today. I simply kept cool and did not make any major mistakes", is how the winner analysed his final round on the tactically challenging course mainly due to its large, heavily undulating greens. He also awarded top marks to the Polish tournament sponsor LOTOS: "It was a very relaxed tournament with the flair of a European Tour tournament", Reiter said enthusiastically. "It is a very special feeling playing in front of such a backdrop."

Berni Reiter has already experienced particularly wonderful golfing this year: two weeks ago he managed a 59 round at a ProAm. Reiter: "That was also very cool!" - but his triumph at the LOTOS Polish Open even beats that.

The tour continues for the Austrian and his colleagues on Monday when round 1 of the Castanea Resort Open in Adendorf is on the agenda.
