Liberec/Czech Republic – Success right down the line for Ben Parker: the Englishman who lives in Düsseldorf celebrated his second win of the season at the EXTEC Pro Golf Tour by Czech One in Liberec, Czech Republic, an he is also taking first place in the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit again with this triumph. Following rounds of 68, 67 and 70 strokes, with a total of 11 under par, the 29-year old finally had a one point lead on the German amateur Max Schmitt (71/69/66); Philipp Mejow from Berlin (69/67/71) lay one stroke behind Mejow.

“I’m really proud that I got a grip on this round and turned it around!” Ben Parker accepted the EXTEC Pro Golf Tour by Czech One winner’s cup with great satisfaction, a trophy that he had to fight hard for. With the professional born in Southport, England having taken the lead with 9 under par after the second day of the tournament in Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec, the possible win almost slipped away from him in the final round.

Although he started well with a birdie, he couldn’t really move the ball really close to the hole with his irons any more afterwards. “I played really solidly on the first two days but after a 90 degree lip out on the 12th hole, a totally unnecessary bogey on the 14th fairway and a missed birdie putt on the 15th I had to change something.”

As Parker knew: German amateur Max Schmitt, already a winner at this year’s Open Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia, was sitting in the clubhouse as the leader with 10 under par and he needed two birdies on the last three holes himself to win outright.

Two birdies for an outright win

He laid the foundation for success with a first birdie on the 16th fairway, a 171 metre long par 3. On the 17th hole he played par and then needed another birdie on the 18th, a par 5. And what do you know: after an excellent drive he played the ball with a 7 iron two metres short of the flag, confidently putted for a birdie and rewarded himself with the title “on a very varied course that is great fun.”

Parker, winner of the Pro Golf Tour 2017 opening tournament in Egypt, is therefore the first player with two wins to his name this season. In the Order of Merit he is now in first place with 14,979 points ahead of Portugal’s Pedro Figueiredo (13,692 points) and the German Nicolai von Dellingshausen (11,748 points).

Players on the Pro Golf Tour have their next opportunity to score points at the Raiffeisen Pro Golf Tour St. Pölten 2017 presented by Diners Club & NOYAN Golftravel, which is being held at St. Pölten Golf Club in Austria from 23 to 25 May.
