Thomas Rosenmüller triumphs in Casablanca

Thomas Rosenmüller is the winner of the Open Palmeraie Country Club 2020. In Casablanca in Morocco the 23 year old from Germany secured himself his first trophy of his professional career. With a total 14 under par and after scoring rounds of 66, 67 and 67 on the courses of Palmeraie Country Club and Casa Green Golf Club he finally was one shot ahead of Darren Walkley from England (68+65+68/-13). Third place was taken by Frenchman Henry Simpson who signed score cards with 65, 67 and 70 strokes, a total -12. Thomas Rosenmüller, professional player from GC München Eichenried, gets 5000 euros for his maiden win and moves up to third position in the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit.
Casablanca/Morocco – This was just the first coup! If Thomas Rosenmüller has his way, he wants to have a reason to celebrate very often this year. “I want to continue winning – this is going to be my first tournament win of three on the Pro Golf Tour this year,” says the 23-year-old, laying out his ambitious goal for the 2020 season. He has every reason to be optimistic about his sporting future, as he played the first of this year's eight tournaments on the Pro Golf Tour in Morocco with impressive confidence. On three days of the tournament, he only allowed himself two bogeys but made 16 birdies in return – an impeccable record.
The basis for his strong performance were impressively precise wedges and safe putts – from a short distance of less than three metres he was not off once this week. And he practically only had short putts on the courses of Palmeraie Country Club and Casa Green Golf in Casablanca, where the tournament was held with a total of 168 participants. “My putting was not good in Egypt,” said Rosenmüller, “so I have been working on this intensively for the last two weeks, along with my wedges. I hit a lot of balls with the wedges and that totally paid off. I was very solid as a result.”
Impressive wedges
The intensive training brought a tremendous feeling of security. “I knew: If I can hit the green with a wedge, then I have the chance of a birdie.” He took advantage of 16 of these chances, playing in the lead right from the start and never getting into serious trouble. “I played very calmly and coolly all week long,” said the champion, who enjoyed going to the tee in the last group on the final day and not to miss any chance at the end. On the last hole he hit the ball five metres to the flag with the wedge and made the par with two putts and his first tournament success perfect. “Winning is a fantastically good feeling. I enjoyed showing off my skills on these two excellent courses here in Casablanca.”
He will have the opportunity to repeat this next week, when the Open Casa Green Golf will be held at the same location from 18 to 20 February. Then two rounds are scheduled on the Casa Green course, the course where Thomas Rosenmüller managed an excellent 66 round this week.
