Donaueschingen, Germany – James Meyer de Beco has secured his second title of the season with an impressive performance at The Cuber Open 2024. The Belgian took a big step towards promotion to the Challenge Tour with his victory at the tournament in Öschberghof.

The final of The Cuber Open 2024 initially turned out differently than hoped. After fantas-tic summer weather over the first two days of the tournament at the picturesque Öschberghof, the final round had to be interrupted in the morning. Due to an acute risk of thunderstorms, tournament director Marcus Hamberger called the players off the course at 10.09 am, and 3:21 hours later the danger was averted.

Meyer De Beco had already proven this year that he can quickly find his top form again after a long interruption. The 24-year-old was also successful at the Golf Mad Champi-onship in Turkey after a thunderstorm interrupted the final round for several hours and secured his first win of the season there in a play-off. And he also had no problems on the Old Course at Öschberghof after resuming play.

Order of Merit of the 2024 Season

One last of a total of seven birdies on the way to a flawless 64 (-7) in the final brought the decision in a tight title race. Meyer De Beco set the best mark in the clubhouse at 16 under par for the tournament and was crowned the winner after a short wait. In the end, he had a one-stroke lead over Dario Antonisse (Netherlands) and Cédric Gugler (Swit-zerland). Frenchman Clement Charmasson crossed the finish line in fourth place.

"It feels incredible," explained the high-flyer during the interview from one of the practi-cal, modular trailers of title sponsor The Cuber, which served as the tournament office. "To win twice in one season is an incredible feeling." Especially in rounds two and three, the winner of the €5,000 prize money was able to shine with 63 and 64 strokes. "It was incredible golf. In the end, almost every putt dropped. My game has felt first-class since I got my first win."

The two-time winner on the Pro Golf Tour was also delighted with the course. "It's very varied here, tight holes with trees, but also slightly more open ones where the wind comes into play and simply great par-5 holes with water. I already said last year that I thought the course was great. And I didn't play well then."

The triumph pushes Meyer De Beco into first place in the season rankings. The top five advance to the Challenge Tour at the end of the season. Gugler (Switzerland), Jean Bekirian (France), Yente van Doren (Belgium) and Aydan Verdonk (Netherlands) follow in second to fifth place in the Order of Merit.
