Rain: Sean Einhaus wins after one round
Preis des Hardenberg Golf Resort 2017
With a first round 67 German Sean Einhaus wins the Preis des Hardenberg GolfResort. Due to an unplayble course the event had to be reduced to a one round tournament.
Northeim – Bad luck with the weather for the Pro Golf Tour this season: For the second time in 2017 a tournament had to be shortened to 18 holes due to an unplayable course caused by bad weather. Because of heavy rain only the first round of the Preis des Hardenberg GolfResort could be played; Fairways, bunkers and greens were completely under water. German Sean Einhaus from Borken thereby is the winner of this event. The 27-year-old finished his first day with 67 strokes. Second place is shared by his fellow countrymen Jonas Kölbing and Nicolai von Dellingshausen, making it a German triple. In April the Haugschlag NÖ Open had also ended after only one ranked round.
„It's been like a little apocalypse here, it rained incredibly much for many hours - there was no chance to continue!" With mixed feelings Sean Einhaus took the trophy of the Preis des Hardenberg GolfResort 2017. On one side "you're happy about every win", the champion said, but on the other side he "would have loved to play all three rounds". But like in April at the Haugschlag NÖ Open in Austria, where snow covered the course, only one round could be played in Northeim. As tournament director Simon Bowler had to declare the course, thats greens and fairways were covered with water, 35 players had not finished the second round yet. Einhaus: "We played five hours long in continious rain, which was alright, but then a lot of puddles appeared."
The Munich-based professional, who played a flawless round with 5 birdies on day one, was waiting for Bowlers announcement together with Jonas Kölbing. Those two players shared the lead with 8 under par, Einhaus noted a 67 and a 69, Kölbing two 68s. But since the second round couln't be finished, Einhaus re-captured his single lead of the first day. "It's really sad we weren't able to play again", the winner said. "I feel very well currently, my game is very solid and I was really looking forward to a good fight with Jonas."
The will be able to continue their duel on July 30, as on that date the Sierra Polish Open 2017 will start in Wejherowo, Poland - hopefully a three-day-event.
