Mathieu Fenasse celebrates first victory
Gut Bissenmoor Classic 2016
Frenchman Mathieu Fenasse is the winner of the Gut Bissenmoor Classic 2016 with a result of 6 under par after three rounds.
With a three meter putt Frenchman Mathieu Fenasse secured himself the first victory of his professional carreer: On day three of the Gut Bissenmoor Classic the 24-year-old triumphed in an exciting 18-hole duel with Rory McNamara from Ireland on the last green, as his birdie made him score 12 under par (67, 65, 69) - a one-stroke advance. Fenasse earns 5000 ranking points and by that, the fifth rank of the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit.
Bad Bramstedt/Germany − He had already played a great season with four Top-10 rankings and only one missed cut, which brought him to the tenth position of the overall ranking. Only three weeks ago, Fenasse lost the playoff of the Sparkassen Open and finished as shared second, but this time the man from Toulouse, who lives in Spain and practices in the PGA Catalunya Resort, absolutely wanted the trophy. Moreover, it was like a playoff-situation again on the 54th and last hole of the tournament: Mathieu Fenasse and Rory McNamara scored even until they reached the green. Both had scored -10 after 36 holes and noted each two birdies and one bogey after 17 holes on day 3. Heavy wind caused a nearly two-hour-break and made it hard for the players even to score par. However, while the other competitors were falling back, it was thrilling until the end on top of the leaderboard. Nevertheless, on the final hole McNamara putted to short, while Fenasse succeeded.
“It was a victory, that was missing so far”, so Mathieu Fenasse,” that’s a great reward for my continuous work this year.” Especially with a good short game the Frenchman convinced in Bad Bramstedt: “I made all the important putts, that’s been the difference.” His deciding birdie putt on hole 54 made him climb the podium and also the Order of Merit. Fenasse is now ranked as overall fifth.
The Pro Golf Tour will continue on August 21 as the “Preis des Hardenberg GolfResort”, the next-to last event of the 2016 season, starts in Northeim/Germany.
