Maiden win for Mathieu Decottignies Lafon in Essaouira
Open Mogador 2015
And the winner is from France, again! With a total -6 Mathieu Decottignies Lafon, 21 year old golfer from Lille, triumphs at the Open Mogador 2015. Scoring rounds of 71, 65 and 74 the tour rookie finally is three shots ahead of a group of five competitors and secures himself his maiden victory on a stormy day in Essaouira in Morocco.
Essaouira/Morooco − In the end it was all about avoiding the bogey: On the tournament’s final day wind was the determining factor. After 36 holes German Anton Kirstein and Frenchman Matthieu Decottignies Lafon had shared first place with -8, after 8 holes they lead with -10. But on the way back to the clubhouse they had to fight the wind. Finally Kirstein had to sign 77 strokes on his scorecard, Decottignies Lafon shot a 2 over par 74, which made him win his first tournament and receive 5000 points for the ranking list.
Filip Mruzek from the Czech Republic, Teemu Bakker from Finland, Dutchman Fernand Osther and Germans Sebastian Heisele and Anton Kirstein finally shared second place with 3 under par − good enough to collect 1812 points for the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit. The ranking list is still led by Philip Mejow from Berlin followed by Teemu Bakker and Reinier Saxton (Netherlands).
"We’re playing on magnificent courses, and I can learn a lot!"
After turning professional last summer 21 year old Matthieu Decottignies Lafon now wants to „stabilize“ his game on the Pro Golf Tour and achieve a promotion to the Challenge Tour by the end of the season. "I chose the Pro Golf Tour to start my professional career because we are playing on magnificent courses and I can learn a lot”, the Frenchman said. He obviously has already learned how to win.
The Pro Golf Tour is taking a two weeks break until the Open Dar Es Salam Blue Course (2015/01/01 - 2015/03/01) and the Open Dar Es Salam Red Course (2015/05/01 - 2015/07/01); both take place in Morocco’s capital Rabat.
