Maiden win for German Maximilian Laier
Preis des Hardenberg GolfResort 2015
It becomes more and more difficult for the players of the Pro Golf Tour as the season’s end is near: After the Augsburg Classic had ended in a playoff, also the Preis des Hardenberg Golfressort did not have a single winner after 54 holes. It took three extra holes for Maximilian Laier from Leipzig, Germany, to secure the first victory of his carrer when he won the playoff against his countryman Daniel Wünsche and Frenchman Antoine Schwartz.
Northeim/Germany − “This victory means a lot to me! I have never won before and it is very important to me to show that I am able to win a title. It was my big aim to win a tournament in this season”, the Champion said about his triumph. After a not-so-special round of 72, he got himself in position on day two with a 70. But in the third round Laier played amazing drives and putted very well which brought him to eight birdies and his first playoff. Proudly the 23 year-old received the trophy and 5000 ranking points. In the Pro Golf Tour of Merit he is now ranked as tenth.
With a total 5 under par the leading three players Laier, Wünsche and Schwartz had shared the first place after 54 holes. Daniel Wünsche (69,73,66) and Maximilian Laier (72,70,66) each achieved a great round of 66 on the par-71 course and could score even with Antoine Schwartz (70,67,71). Philipp Mejow from Berlin was in the lead for the first two days but with a 74 on the final day of the tournament he finally shared the fourth rank together with Max Kramer.
But Mejow still leads the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit with 30.870 points. He is followed by Dutchman Reinier Saxton (27.180 points), German Martin Keskari (26.535 points), Benjamin Rusch from Switzerland (25.137 points) and Teemu Bakker from Finnland (20.353 points). While the Top 4 of the ranking probably secured their tickets to the European Challenge Tour 2016, the battle for the fifth place, which also gets to promote to the Challenge Tour, is still on, just as the fight for the overall tour victory 2015. It will be a thrilling finale at the Castanea Resort Pro Golf Tour Championship 2015, which will take place from September 28 to 30 at the Golfresort Adendorf.
