Maarten Bosch: Maiden win with an eagle

Sparkassen Open 2016

That was quick, that was a completely convincing triumph in style: Maarten Bosch from the Netherlands is the winner of the Sparkassen Open 2016. With an eagle on the first extra hole he prevailed in a four men play-off.

Bochum/Germany − German Max Kramer was the first player to go to 16 under par on the final day of the Sparkassen Open in Bochumer Golfclub in Germany. With a fabulous final round 64 the professional from Fulda was the leader in the clubhouse around noon (67, 69, 64). But by the end of the third round also Frenchmen Mathieu Fenasse and Kenny Subregis as well as Maarten Bosch from the Netherlands went to -16; they all birdied the 18th hole to reach a four men play-off.

Players and visitors already prepeared for a long afternoon at the 30,000 euro Pro Golf Tour tournament, but it was Maarten Bosch who took a likewise impressive and effective shortcut to his first trophy of his professional career: He had the honour on the first extra hole, 489 yard long par 5. His drive was not brilliant but okay, but with a splendid 7 iron he placed the ball onto the green. From 15 feet he made the eagle and secured himself his maiden win on the Pro Golf Tour.

"My game felt very good since a few weeks", Bosch said, "now I was finally able to score good as well." Especially his long game and his irons were of superb quality and paved the road to success.
