Dylan Boshart celebrates his first victory
Open Ocean 2017
Precise drives, strong irons and finally two birdies at the right time: With a great performance Dylan Boshart from the Netherlands secured himself the trophy of the Open Ocean in Agadir and by that the first title of his career as a professional. Rounds of 69, 69 and 70, total 5 under par, made the 26-year-old from Rotterdam finish as a winner on the par-71 course of the Golf de l’Ocean, one stroke ahead of his fellow countryman Maarten Bosch and Czech Stanislav Matus who share rank 2. German Stephan Gross achieved the fourth place of the leaderboard with 3 under par.
Agadir/Morocco – It was a tough piece of work for Dylan Boshart, not only because of the storm: Heavy wind temporarily disturbed the players at their game and even uprooted trees on the fairway. During day one tournament director Simon Bowler even had to call back all players to the clubhouse and suspend the round. „Every player had to play at least nine holes in the storm“, Dylan Boshard said. The Dutchmen was able to master the task, played precise irons and on the final day he hit 16 fairways. „Usually I’m better at my short game but today I‘ve always hit the ball perfectly and could score well in a final round.“
With two good rounds of 69 Boshart had captured the lead after 36 holes, with a solid 70 he achieved the victory. The decisive birdies were played on hole 16 & 17, so he could even afford to note a bogey on 18. „I think that this might have been the best bogey of my entire career“, the champion grinned as he was rewarded with the trophy, 5000 Euro prize money and as much points for the overall ranking. His first victory brings him to rank 6 of the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit, that is still lead by Portuguese Pedro Figueiredo.
The Open Ocean was the seventh tournament of the current Pro Golf Tour season, and the fifth this year in Morocco. The final event of the Morocco series will be the Open Tazegzout, taking place in Agadir from March 29 to 31.
